Chamonix - One to Watch
Since a first visit to Chamonix in 2010 we fell in love with the place, returning every year. The French Alps provides mountain vistas that you would expect to see much further afield made accessible through a short flight to Geneva. When time is limited its ideal. Lifts make incredible panoramic views accessible to everyone but also throw very clearly into view receding glaciers and snow lines. After repeated trips it wasn’t completely clear how how much damage is being done but after a 2 year break it became very apparent. A clear indicator of damage is the famous Aiguille Du Midi Arete, which seems to be splitting into sections in warmer summers. We saw similar erosion on the Argentière Glacier further up the valley.
